| Why is it that people always refer to
the Kennedy family as a family with a curse? On the other hand one might
ask why they have so many tragedies in their family?
It always seems as though every happiness is overshadowed by tragedy. And every tragedy followed by another. John, elected Presient- then shot down in his prime. His brother Bobby, on the verge of victory- assassinated as he celebrated. But it goes back further then that, as you know if you've read this homepage. To sum it up: The oldest brother - Joe, Jr., a hero who they say had the most promise of all- killed on a mission during Word War II. A beloved sister, dead in another plane crash. Rosemary Kennedy has been instituionalized since 1941 because of retardation and the effects of a failed lobotomy. Kathleen Kennedy married William John Robert Cavendish, the Marquess of Harginton, who was killed in World War II. She later died in a plane crash, aged 28. Presidend John Kennedy was assasinated in Dallas, Texa, on 22 November 1963, aged 46. Presidend Kennedy's son Robert junior was found in possession of marijuana while a juvenile. Robert Kennedy's son David died in 1984 of a drug overdose in a hotel after eing ousted from the faily holiday home at Palm Beach. Robert Kennedy's son Joseph was involved in a 1973 car accident that left a female passenger paralyzed for life. Edward Kennedy drove a car off a bridge in Massachusetts' Chappaquiddick Island in 1969 after a party, kiling aide Mary Jo Kopechne. Eward Kennedy's son Edward junior had his right leg amputated in 1973 because of cancer. Edward Kennedy's nephew Wiiliam Kennedy Smith was accused of commiting rape in 1991 at the family's Palm Beach Florida estate. He was acquitted. I could go on and on and I haven't even mentioned half of the tragedies this family has had to endure. But the question still remains: Why the Kennedy's? Looking back on their history it is interesting to find out that this Irish family came a long way. Indeed, they did. They came over from Ireland totally poor and lacking everyhing. Their goal was to become part of the highest classes in society, and they reached that goal. But I think it is important to realized that the higher you get, the faster you achieve your goals and aims, the lower one can fall. We are all familiar with families that
never seem to get out of the cellar financially, socially, or medically.
They have kids with lots of potential, occasionally beautiful and brilliant
as well, but who end up losers nevertheless. Disaster of one sort or another
follow them around. Quite frequently, memebers of these families are alcoholic,
drug addicts, criminals, gamblers, and.murderers. We attribute their situation
to bad upbringing, lack of spiritual values, poor education and bad neighborhoods.
Every so often, a quite wealthy and socially successful family shows up
with the same kind of history just mentioned but who lack the above reasons
for their peculiarities. We can't understand them. Since they don't have
any of the typical excuses for their misbehaviours, we call them- A Family
Curse.
The Kennedy's are such a family and have
been in the public eye the last eighty years. This Curse follows them in
a ghostly manner. Even the best, and the most beautiful seem to be
affected ineluctably by this curse. Think of JFK, Jr.'s plane crash. His
plane crashes and he, his wife and her sister are killed. Out of nowhere-
BOOM- another inexplicable disaster.
