curriculum vitae

Since April 2002: Professor Structural geology, Eberhard Karls University Tübingen.

1999 - 2002: Research Fellow (Wissenschaftlicher Assistent) in the Tectonophysics Group of Prof. Cees Passchier, Institut fuer Geowissenschaften, Mainz University in Germany.

1996 - 1999: Logan Research Fellow at the Department of Earth Sciences, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. The subject of the project was the formation of (micro-) structures due to deformation-induced transport of material in fluids or melts. Main focuses are (1) the relation between vein formation mechanisms and resulting vein morphology and internal structures and (2) The role of deformation in melt segregation and accumulation.

1994 - 1996: Postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Earth Sciences, Monash University, funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC). Research topic: "Experimental vein formation: microstructures and kinetics". The project was mainly aimed at gaining a better understanding of the formation of fibrous textures in veins, using experiments with analogue materials and computer modelling.

1989 - 1993: PhD research at the University at Utrecht, The Netherlands, under supervision of Dr. J.L. Urai and Dr. C.W. Passchier. Under the research project title "Experimental deformation of polyphase rock analogues", I studied several topics, the main being the relationship between rheology of a polyphase material, the rheology of the constituent phases and the topology of the phase distribution. The research involved experimental deformation of organic rock analogues and finite element numerical modelling.

1987 - 1989: Military service. After 6 months of basic infantry training and specialist training at the School of the Military Intelligence Service, I served as terrain-analysis officer at the Intelligence Section of the Staff of the First Netherlands Army Corps. Present rank: First Lieutenant of the Reserve.

1982 - 1987: Study of geology at the University at Utrecht, The Netherlands. "Doctoraal" in Structural and Applied Geology, with Exploration Geophysics and Remote Sensing as extra subjects. Main thesis on "The Geology of the Mina de São Domingos Region, South Portugal".
